I used So Soft fabric paint

very soft and delicate
on this shirt.

This is my favorite find of the year !!!!
A Bates numbering machine
circa 1906 (as far as ican find out)
The first Bates Stamping machine
was invented in 1892 by the
Bates Manufacturing Company in NJ.
It was advertised as the first
automatic Bates numbering machine
ever to be created. Each time the machine was pressed down
onto a sheet of paper, a rotating wheel incremented by one.
Pages were numbered using a six-digit sequence.
For example, page 852 in a document set would be 000852.
Courts and law firms quickly adopted this system
My husband is cleaning it up now so Im
hoping i can use it in my art.
Im so excited about this find!!!!!!

well im rested up a little so i can share my trip south
to Kitchener and then to Port Colborne Ontario ( Canada)
On Friday , my beautiful niece Jenn
picked me up and we went to the Art House
in Kitchener ...what a nice store...
Ill have to go back there for sure !!!
Saturday morning we left Kitchener at 6:45 am
for the drive to Port Colbourne and to Esa's studio.

I think there were 12 of us that morning....
We experience the wildest thunderstorm i have ever been in the middle of
The studio was hit with lightning coming through the electicle outlet in the midst of us.
Luckily nothing else in Esa,s house or studio were damaged.
But brave souls that we were (NOT)
we continued on ...
(We could see the lightning through the skylights)
The power went out for about 2 hours and no one went out for lunch LOL
which was ok because Esa's wife Maila provides the most endless scrumptious food
(snacks she calls it all )
We completed one painting that day,
Esa will not let you leave till the majority of it is finished.

Day two ,Sunday ...was a little less exciting (no storms)
10 of us that day but wonderful as well , as we worked on another painting.

Esa is a fabulous teacher very kind and a real sweetheart
the best teacher i have encountered.
Maila is equally kind and generous .
They both make sure you are well taken care of....
Together they make a fabulous team !!!!
I hope if you ever get a chance to take classes with him
you take advantage of the experience ...you will enjoy it.
We will be going back for more as soon as we can..

asked me to paint this jug.
They will fill it with water from Lake Temagami.
(Temagami, Ontario, Canada )
It will be used to christen
their new police boat

These were so much work getting the lettering to look nice
This one above is large ... 6 feet wide.
difficult to maneuver to get a good picture.
6 coats of outdoor varnish and a lot of time blow drying between coats.

Her 2 boys Alex and Jacob
Dereks son, Kobe is to the right.
My new grandbaby is over due. This will be my # 10.

They live an hour north of me
They dont have an obstetrician in their town
so normally they would come here to
New Liskeard for the birth....
However their dr decides to go on holiday
Glenna went into labor yesterday so they
had to send her to Timmins
which is almost 3 hours north of them.
I just couldnt believe that !!!!
any way labor had stopped by this morning
and they sent her back home
so we are waiting.....

Back and sides

A new circle group has started.
We are swapping background papers,
all held in this Portfolio that i decorated
with paint and paper.

******* Portfolio Background Tutorial****
1) Gesso all surfaces....DRY
2) Glu bits of Ephemera,( scrap papers,
book pages, Asian text...music..etc
I also reinforced the folds with torn
strip of thin cotton . DRY well.
3) add bits of painted deli wrap,
painted paper towels...
4) color other areas with ink and/or
paint..(.thined with water)
dab some off with a paper towel
to soften.
5) add various marks with paint,
using tools like plastic fork, round
objects, end of pencil.
6) add stamps...text or shapes....dry
7) a few spatters of paint can be added now...

My favorite thing to do is make these
backgrounds to use in my Mixed media art.

**** Mono print Background Tutorial****
I used Rosin Paper for the base.
1) Gesso all surfaces....DRY
2) Glu down bits of Ephemera,( scrap papers,
book pages, Asian text...music. stamped images .etc
3) the next step requires a surface to paint on.
a piece of glass or a piece of cardboard,
about the size of a piece of photo - copy paper.
Roll out acrylic paint,on the cardboard.
Place another piece of good sturdy paper
on top of this and rub your hand over the top.
you will now have transferred the paint.
Turn this new painted paper over on top of
your base Rosin paper,immediately rubbing again
with your hand over the painted paper.
You can do this over and over again,
with as many colors as you want,
in whatever areas that you like.
Dry between applications.
I used a lacy stencil on top of this and
dabbed with turquoise paint.
That made those larger spots that you see.
I also added a paper napkin with red roses on it,
and then i painted with red acrylic ,
through bits of sequin waste, in other areas.
The next step i took was to dab some areas
with warm white acrylic to soften.
Finally.... i took some vintage distress ink and
applied to several areas around the outside
of my paper.

I hope you enjoy this tutorial
and find it useful.
Look for stamps of body parts
that will go together.
My stamps came from
Character Construction
http://www.characterconstructions.com/
you can test your "Parts"
by stamping on to copy paper.
Stamp your chosen parts on to card stock
Use permanent ink .
Color them to your liking .
I used water color pencils
and acrylic paints for some.
Cut out your parts
and assemble.
One other thing I did

was to cut away the inside of the skirt
and glued an image behind it.
I also cut the tail part
of the bird ,so that
it was still attached but I could
place it out side of the skirt.....
this gave even more detention
to the skirt ....I did the same with the nest
add the arms and
legs last.
I found that my doll
was not sturdy enough
for me ,so ...I glued everything
on to another piece of card stock.
This also makes the back
look nice and tidy.
Then of course you need
to cut her out again.
I attached her arms
with tiny brads,
however they are glued on
but you can make them
so that they move.
Embellish your creation
to your hearts desire.
The more you can add ,
the more dimensional
it will look.
NOTE:
If you don't have the stamps
You can also draw your own
parts, or use appropriate
images, that you can find in magazines etc/
Try one and please show me photos.

YES!!!! this is the roll of
Red Rosin paper
that ....! carried back
(On the plane, from Miami)
It weighs about 8 lbs.
I could not find it
here in Canada.....
You have to understand
that artists get obsessed with
things they cant find!

Its wonderfully strong
and accepts paint and
textures beautifully.
and I had to have it!!!

Some friends have asked me about that turquoise
paper on my journal pages and how I made it.
I did some yesterday and here are my results.
Originally I used card stock , for my base.
But here Ive used Red Rosin paper.
!) Gesso your paper and set it to dry....

2) I then glued stripes of Ledger paper,
I have also used phone book pages, etc

3) Take a clean foam meat tray
Roll turquoise paint over the bottom of the tray.
Flip it over on to the Rosin paper and rub
the backside on to the gessoed paper
making a mono print.
Repeat as many times as you like.
You can also add different colors adding variations
here I used a small amount of shade flesh.

4) from here you can go on to spatter, stamp
add stucco etc for texture

Each piece of paper will turn out different and
Im sure you will be surprised along the way.

First plane ride

I was actually terrified!!!!
Id never been on
a huge plane before ,
BUT How could I refuse
a trip like that?
